Today the Beezles were holding a fete.
It was a beautiful sunny day and the songbirds were singing high up in the trees.
The Beezles had all been talking about the Summer Fete for weeks now! Uncle McBuzz had been cutting the grass. He'd taken off his little tartan hat and his jacket, he'd rolled up his sleeves, and now he was using his hankie to wipe the sweat from his head.
"Goodness! It's a very hot day today!" said Uncle McBuzz.
Mrs Bee brought Uncle McBuzz a tall glass of water with ice.
"thankyou very much Mrs Bee!" said Uncle McBuzz. "How are you getting on with the display?"
Mrs Bee had been setting up a large table to display all the things for sale.
"Oh the table looks lovely if I say so myself!" replied Mrs Bee.
Bizzy was cutting flowers and putting them into little bunches.
She had bluebells and daisies, pansies and violets, and she had even tied little ribbons around each bunch. They looked ever so pretty!
Bizzy sang as she worked. She loved to sing!
"tra la la, la la la" sang Bizzy.
Buzzy had been helping Uncle McBuzz to tidy up the cut grass.
He'd also been helping Mrs Bee to put everything out on the table.
There were little cakes with pink icing and silver balls on top, honey oatcakes, strawberry jam, lemon flavoured honey in little pots with red lids on, and BEST of all there were lime and raspberry lollipops!!
Buzzy went to see if he could help Bizzy. She had been very busy today, tying the flowers with pretty ribbon and putting all the little bunches into her basket.
"Hello Bizzy" said Buzzy."Need any help?"
"Oh hello there!" Bizzy replied. "Thankyou Buzzy, I could do with some help carrying this basket,it's quite heavy!"
Together they carried the basket to where Mrs Bee had set up the table.
"I think we should leave the basket right there" said Mrs Bee as she pointed to the grass at the edge of the table.
"Oh Mrs Bee! everything looks lovely!" said Bizzy. "Where's Zubby? and where's Bazzil?"
Bazzil had decided to play a trick on Zubby. He had tied the handle of Zubby's little hive door, to the fence outside. It meant that when Zubby tried to open the door, it wouldn't open!
Bazzil was always up to no good! He was a naughty Beezle!!
He giggled and giggled as he could hear Zubby struggling with the door.
"Oh bother!" said Zubby as he sat on the floor. His door was jammed and he was stuck inside! Then Zubby had a thought "I know!, I'll open the window and fly out!".
Zubby opened the window and flew out. As all you boys and girls know, Zubby can only fly backwards, and as he flew out of the window he bumped right into Bazzil who was standing at the gate.
"OUCH!" shouted Zubby
"OUCH" shouted Bazzil.
Zubby realised what Bazzil had done and began to laugh.
"You! I might have known! Now let's get a move on, we've got a fete to go to!"
Off they went and as they arrived at the fete, they could see that it was already very busy. There was Chewy Caterpillar, Philip Frog, Fuzzy Wuzzy Buzzy, Buzzy and Bizzy,Mrs Bee and Uncle McBuzz, the songbirds and there were visitors from the other gardens too!
"We'd better hurry !" said Bazzil "otherwise there'll be nothing left!"
Zubby managed to get the last of the lollipops and of course two pots of honey! He loved honey! He could see Fuzzy with her little shoppping trolley and it looked full to bursting! There were flowers sticking out of the top of the trolley, and he could just see the lids of some honey pots.
Everyone was having fun, talking and laughing, eating and drinking, until eventually there was nothing left to sell!
Mrs Bee counted up all the money.
"Ahem!" she said. everyone quietened down "today at this fete we have a grand total of Fifty-two pounds and 20 pence!"
Everyone gasped! That was indeed a very large sum of money.
"This money will be used for activities on Honeycombe Hill, and possibly a swing park" said Mrs Bee.
Everyone clapped. A swing park would be great!
As the sun went down on Honeycombe Hill the Beezles and their friends all snuggled down to sleep.
Today had been a great day and the fete had been very good. it wouldn't be long till the next time!
